秋田ユネスコ協会が主催して毎年行っている「外国人による日本語スピーチコンテスト」が、令和5年12月10日に第34回目のコンテストを開催しました。私は、今年から秋田ユネスコ協会に入会したこともあり、司会とワークショップ・ファシリテーターとしてお手伝いしてきました。最初に仰せつかった役目はメインの司会ではなかったのですが、司会を予定した方が急遽欠席したため、私がその業務を務めさせていただきました。なんと、司会用の原稿がない！ということで、こんな感じかな、というアドリブで司会を行いました。慌てたり噛んだりはしなかったのですが、やはり素人ですので、聞き苦しかったかもしれません…ごめんなさい！
実は、私は過去のスピーチコンテストで、外国人とペアで互いの母国語のスピーチを行うというスタイルの会で、出場したことがありましたが、今回は運営側でしたのでもっと緊張しました。外国人によるスピーチだけではなく、スピーカーと参加者との交流のワークショップも開催され、NPO法人バニヤンツリーの会員の方がファシリテーターを担当してくださいました。
たくさんの高校生が会場運営のボランティアで来ておりましたが、秋田ユネスコの理事の方から、「毎年、高校生のボランティアの子たちがたくさん来てくれるけど、ただ手伝って帰るだけなのが気になっている。この子たちが何か学びの場になるように、何かできないだろうか？」と相談されましたので、お昼の休憩の時に簡単なワークショップを行いました。内容は、参加者同士がコミュニケーションをスムーズに取れて、自分の内面を話すことでお互いをフォローし合うようになるようなワークで、参加者同士がすぐに打ち解けて交流したため、積極性が高まって、スピーチコンテストが終わった直後に、スピーカーの外国人の方々に自ら積極的に話しかけて交流をしていました。高校生のみなさんは最後に「とても楽しかった！来年も是非ボランティアに参加したい！」と言ってくださいました。ありがとうございました！

I assisted with the Japanese Speech Contest for Foreigners organized by the Akita UNESCO Association.
The Akita UNESCO Association held the 34th edition of the “Japanese Speech Contest for Foreigners” on December 10, Reiwa 5 (2023). Having joined the Akita UNESCO Association this year, I contributed as the host and workshop facilitator. Originally, I was not assigned the main host role, but due to the sudden absence of the scheduled host, I took on that responsibility. Surprisingly, there was no script for the host! So, I hosted the event ad-lib, thinking about how it should go. Although I didn’t panic or stumble, being an amateur, it might have been challenging to listen to… I apologize!
In the past, I participated in a style of event where foreigners paired up to deliver speeches in their native languages. However, this time, being on the organizing side made me more nervous. In addition to speeches by foreigners, there was also a workshop for interaction between speakers and participants. A member of the nonprofit organization Banyan Tree served as the facilitator for this workshop.
Many high school students volunteered for the event’s operations. Akita UNESCO’s board members expressed concern, saying, “Every year, high school volunteers come to help a lot, but we’re worried that they just assist and leave. Can’t we do something so that these kids have a learning experience?” So, during the lunch break, I conducted a simple workshop. The content aimed to enable participants to communicate smoothly, share their inner selves, and support each other through dialogue. Participants quickly bonded and interacted, enhancing their enthusiasm. Immediately after the speech contest, the high school students actively approached and interacted with the foreign speakers. At the end, the students said, “It was so much fun! We definitely want to volunteer again next year!” Thank you very much!

Colaboré en el Concurso de Oratoria en Japonés para Extranjeros organizado por la Asociación UNESCO de Akita.
La Asociación UNESCO de Akita llevó a cabo la 34ª edición del “Concurso de Oratoria en Japonés para Extranjeros” el 10 de diciembre, en el año 5 de la era Reiwa (2023). Al haberme unido a la Asociación UNESCO de Akita este año, contribuí como presentador y facilitador de talleres. Inicialmente, no se me asignó el papel principal de presentador, pero debido a la ausencia repentina del presentador programado, asumí esa responsabilidad. Sorprendentemente, ¡no había guion para el presentador! Así que dirigí el evento improvisando, pensando en cómo debería ser. Aunque no entré en pánico ni titubeé, al ser un aficionado, podría haber sido difícil de escuchar… ¡Pido disculpas!
En el pasado, participé en un estilo de evento donde los extranjeros formaban parejas para dar discursos en sus idiomas nativos. Sin embargo, esta vez, estar en el lado organizativo me puso más nervioso. Además de los discursos de los extranjeros, también hubo un taller para la interacción entre oradores y participantes. Un miembro de la organización sin fines de lucro Banyan Tree actuó como facilitador para este taller.
Muchos estudiantes de secundaria se ofrecieron como voluntarios para las operaciones del evento. Los miembros de la junta de Akita UNESCO expresaron su preocupación, diciendo: “Cada año, los voluntarios de la escuela secundaria vienen a ayudar mucho, pero nos preocupa que solo ayuden y se vayan. ¿No podemos hacer algo para que estos niños tengan una experiencia de aprendizaje?” Así que, durante el descanso del almuerzo, realicé un taller sencillo. El contenido tenía como objetivo permitir que los participantes se comunicaran de manera fluida, compartieran su yo interno y se apoyaran mutuamente a través del diálogo. Los participantes rápidamente se unieron e interactuaron, aumentando su entusiasmo. Inmediatamente después del concurso de oratoria, los estudiantes de secundaria se acercaron y interactuaron activamente con los oradores extranjeros. Al final, los estudiantes dijeron: “¡Fue muy divertido! ¡Definitivamente queremos ser voluntarios nuevamente el próximo año!” ¡Muchas gracias!
