「市の記念日って、何を記念している日なの？」
意外と知らない方も多いかもしれません。7月13日（月）、秋田キャッスルホテルで開催された「令和8年度 市の記念日式典」に出席しました。7月12日は、明治22年に秋田市役所が開庁したことにちなみ、昭和3年に制定された秋田市の記念日です。
今年は、本市の芸術文化の振興に貢献された方と、商工業の発展や国際交流の振興に貢献された方のお二人が功労者として表彰されました。また、一般表彰では75名の方と2団体が長年の功績をたたえられました。団体のうち、ボランティア部門で「秋田大学V-net」という学生が中心となって活動する秋田大学の公認ボランティアサークルが表彰され、学生の代表の方が来ていました。
華やかな式典の裏には、それぞれの分野で長年にわたり地域を支えてこられた方々の努力があります。今の秋田市があるのは、こうした先人や市民の皆さんの積み重ねがあってこそだと改めて感じました。
地域を良くする力は、特別な誰かだけが持っているものではありません。身近な活動や小さな積み重ねが、未来の秋田をつくっていきます。これからも、多くの方々の活動に感謝しながら、私自身も市民の皆さんとともに、より良い秋田市を目指して取り組んでいきたいと思います。
【English】July 13, 2026 – The History of Our City Is Built One Person at a Time — Attending Akita City’s Anniversary Ceremony
“What is Akita City’s Anniversary Day?” Many people may not know the answer. On July 13, I attended the 2026 Akita City Anniversary Ceremony at the Akita Castle Hotel. Akita City’s Anniversary Day is July 12. It was established in 1928 to celebrate the opening of Akita City Hall in 1889.
This year, two people received the Distinguished Service Award for their contributions to the promotion of arts and culture, the development of commerce and industry, and international exchange in Akita City. In addition, 75 individuals and two organizations received General Commendation Awards in recognition of their many years of service. One of the organizations was Akita University V-net, the official volunteer club of Akita University, which is mainly run by students. A student representative attended the ceremony to receive the award.
Behind this formal ceremony are many years of dedication by people who have quietly supported our community in many different fields. The Akita City we enjoy today exists because of the steady efforts of those who came before us and of many citizens who continue to serve the community.
The power to improve a community does not belong only to a few special people. Small actions and everyday efforts by ordinary citizens help build the future of Akita. I would like to continue working together with the people of our city while expressing my sincere appreciation to everyone who contributes to making Akita a better place.
【Español】13 de julio de 2026 – La historia de nuestra ciudad se construye con el esfuerzo de cada persona — Participé en la ceremonia del Día Conmemorativo de la Ciudad de Akita
“¿Qué se celebra en el Día Conmemorativo de la Ciudad de Akita?” Tal vez muchas personas no conozcan la respuesta. El 13 de julio asistí a la ceremonia del Día Conmemorativo de la Ciudad de Akita del año 2026, celebrada en el Akita Castle Hotel. El Día Conmemorativo de la Ciudad es el 12 de julio. Esta fecha fue establecida en 1928 para recordar la apertura del Ayuntamiento de Akita en el año 1889.
Este año, dos personas recibieron el Premio al Mérito por sus contribuciones al desarrollo de las artes y la cultura, al progreso del comercio y la industria, y al fortalecimiento del intercambio internacional en la ciudad de Akita. Además, 75 personas y dos organizaciones recibieron reconocimientos por muchos años de servicio a la comunidad. Una de las organizaciones fue Akita University V-net, el club oficial de voluntariado de la Universidad de Akita, integrado principalmente por estudiantes. Una representante estudiantil asistió a la ceremonia para recibir el reconocimiento.
Detrás de esta ceremonia hay muchos años de esfuerzo y dedicación de personas que han apoyado silenciosamente a la comunidad en diferentes ámbitos. La ciudad de Akita que disfrutamos hoy existe gracias al trabajo constante de quienes nos precedieron y de muchas personas que siguen sirviendo a la comunidad.
La capacidad de mejorar una comunidad no pertenece solamente a unas pocas personas especiales. Las pequeñas acciones y los esfuerzos de cada día son los que construyen el futuro de Akita. Quiero seguir trabajando junto con la ciudadanía y, al mismo tiempo, expresar mi más sincero agradecimiento a todas las personas que contribuyen a hacer de Akita una ciudad cada vez mejor.
