【English】October 17, 2026 — A Day with Young People at AKISHOP and a UNESCO Youth Seminar
I spent the day working with young people, starting at Akita Commercial High School’s “AKISHOP,” where I helped serve samples of direct-trade coffee. A handmade “Satoyama Donation Coffee” sign welcomed visitors to our busy booth. A cup of coffee can spark interest in the people who grow it and how donations support society. It was a lovely way to connect learning, community service, and conversations with local residents.

In the afternoon, I helped with a workshop at the Akita UNESCO Association’s SDGs Youth Seminar at the Akita City Cultural Creation Center. Junior and senior high school students explored how they could help build a sustainable society. In groups, they wrote ideas on sticky notes, organized them on large sheets of paper, and discussed peace education, poverty, health, and education. They considered causes and possible actions, then presented their ideas.

Learning means more than remembering set answers. Sharing our thoughts, listening to others, and welcoming different views help us grow. For the past three years, I have led weekly workshops at Akita Commercial High School, a UNESCO Associated School. I will keep helping young people see how social issues connect to their own lives. From sharing coffee to discussing our future, it was a day of learning for me, too.
