令和8（2026）年9月27日、秋田拠点センターアルヴェで開催された「あきた国際フェスティバル2026」に、秋田ユネスコ協会の理事として参加し、ブースのお手伝いをしました。会場には各国の文化や国際交流活動を紹介するブースが並び、秋田にいながら世界の多様さに触れられる一日となりました。
秋田ユネスコ協会のブースでは、ユネスコの理念やこれまでの活動を紹介するとともに、「平和な世界を目指すには」という問いへのメッセージを展示しました。「相手を思いやる」「互いを認める」「命を大事に」といった言葉が並び、平和について、それぞれの言葉で考える場になっていました。毎年素敵だなぁと思うのは、年齢や国籍に関わらず様々な人が平和への気持ちを書く時にはとても真剣な眼差しで臨む姿です。
「世界平和」と聞くと、国や国際機関が取り組む大きな課題に感じるかもしれません。もちろん、その役割は重要です。一方で、身近な相手の話を聞くことや、自分とは違う文化をすぐに否定したりせず、知ろうとすることも、私たちにできる大切な行動だと思います。
私も国際協力の仕事で海外に暮らしてきましたが、国の名前だけでは分からないことが、一人の人との出会いによって身近になる経験をしてきました。こうしたフェスティバルには、その最初のきっかけをつくる力があります。
秋田で暮らす外国の方々も、同じ地域で生活する仲間です。特別なイベントの日だけでなく、普段の暮らしでも自然に声を掛け合える関係を広げていきたいと思います。
【English】September 27, 2026 — Connecting with the World at the Akita International Festival
I helped at the Akita UNESCO Association’s booth as a board member during the Akita International Festival 2026 at ALVE. Booths introducing different cultures and international exchange activities brought the world closer to home. Ours shared UNESCO’s ideals and our activities, along with messages answering the question, “How can we build a peaceful world?” Suggestions included “Care for others,” “Accept one another,” and “Value life.” Every year, I am touched by how seriously people of all ages and nationalities reflect on peace as they write.
World peace may seem like a task for governments and international organizations, but we can all play a part by listening to others and trying to understand unfamiliar cultures before judging them. While living abroad and working in international cooperation, I learned how meeting just one person can make a distant country feel familiar. Festivals like this can open that door.
People from other countries who live in Akita are our neighbors. I hope we can keep building friendships through everyday greetings and conversations, as well as at special events.
【Español】27 de septiembre de 2026 — Conectándonos con el mundo en el Festival Internacional de Akita
Colaboré en el puesto de la Asociación UNESCO de Akita como miembro de su junta directiva durante el Festival Internacional de Akita 2026, celebrado en ALVE. Los puestos de distintas culturas y actividades de intercambio nos acercaron al mundo sin salir de Akita. En el nuestro presentamos los ideales de la UNESCO, nuestras actividades y mensajes sobre la pregunta: «¿Cómo podemos construir un mundo en paz?». Entre las respuestas estaban «Pensar en los demás», «Aceptarnos mutuamente» y «Valorar la vida». Cada año me conmueve ver la seriedad con que personas de todas las edades y nacionalidades reflexionan sobre la paz al escribir.
La paz mundial puede parecer una tarea de gobiernos y organismos internacionales, pero todos podemos aportar escuchando a los demás y tratando de comprender otras culturas antes de juzgarlas. Durante mis años de trabajo en cooperación internacional en el extranjero, descubrí que conocer a una sola persona puede acercarnos a un país que antes sentíamos lejano. Estos festivales pueden abrir esa puerta.
Las personas de otros países que viven en Akita también son nuestros vecinos. Espero que sigamos creando lazos con saludos y conversaciones cotidianas, además de compartir en eventos especiales.
