令和8年（2026年）3月2日（月）、秋田市立秋田商業高等学校（通称：秋商）の卒業式があり、来賓として出席してきました。昨年、一昨年と参加させていただき、すっかり魅了されてしまった卒業式ですが、今年もまた心を動かされる式でした。
卒業生が入場してくるときの表情は、今年もすごく清々しく素敵でした。秋商の厳しい規律の中で3年間を過ごし、部活動や学校生活に真剣に取り組んできた達成感が、その表情に表れているように感じます。そして相変わらず、所作がとても美しい。姿勢や動きがきびきびとしていて、式全体が凛とした空気に包まれていました。
校長先生の式辞の中で、特に印象に残った言葉があります。
「卒業してからは、人としての品格が大事になる。人としての品格には、本校の校訓である『感謝』『勤勉』『鍛錬』が基礎となる。人生において、品格は羅針盤になる。」
社会に出れば様々な場面で迷うことがあります。そのときに、自分の行動の基準となるものが「品格」であり、それが人生の羅針盤になるという言葉は、卒業生だけでなく大人にとっても胸に響くものだと感じました。
私はユネスコスクールの取り組みを通じて秋商と関わるようになり、今年で2年目になります。授業や活動の中で関わってきた生徒たちが卒業生の中にたくさんおり、その姿を見たとき、思わず涙が出そうになりました。同時に、晴れ晴れとした気持ちにもなりました。これは、もしかすると指導する側の立場で見たときに感じる感情なのかもしれません。
改めて感じたのは、秋商の卒業式が持つ独特の魅力です。伝統を大切にしながら、礼節や規律がしっかりと息づいている。その空気の中で卒業生たちが堂々と巣立っていく姿は、見ている者の心を打ちます。今年もまた、清く美しく、そして人の成長を実感できる素晴らしい式でした。
卒業生の皆さん、ご卒業おめでとうございます。これからの人生が、校訓である「感謝」「勤勉」「鍛錬」が羅針盤として、自分の思った通りに進んでいくことを願っています。

Celebrating the Graduation of AKISHO Students
On March 2, 2026, I attended the graduation ceremony of Akita Municipal Akita Commercial High School (AKISHO) as a guest. It was a beautiful ceremony that reminded me once again how much students grow during their three years of high school.
This was my third time attending the ceremony, and each year it leaves a strong impression on me.
When the graduates entered the hall, their faces were bright and confident. After three years of studying and participating in club activities under the disciplined culture of AKISHO, they looked proud of what they had achieved.
One thing that always stands out at AKISHO is the students’ manners and posture. Their movements are sharp and respectful, and the entire ceremony has a calm and dignified atmosphere. You can feel the school’s strong tradition and sense of discipline.
During the principal’s speech, one message stayed deeply in my mind.
“After graduation, what matters most is your character.
The foundation of character is our school motto:
Gratitude, Diligence, and Discipline.
In life, character becomes your compass.”
In society, people sometimes face difficult choices. At those moments, character becomes the guide that helps us decide what is right. I felt that this message was not only important for the graduates, but also meaningful for adults.
I have been working with AKISHO for the past two years through activities related to UNESCO Schools. Many of the students I met in classes and activities were among this year’s graduates. When I saw them standing on the stage, I almost found myself in tears.
At the same time, I also felt proud and happy watching them begin a new chapter in their lives.
AKISHO’s graduation ceremony has a unique charm. The school values tradition, and respect and discipline are deeply rooted in its culture. Watching the students leave the school with confidence is truly inspiring.
To all the graduates, congratulations.
I hope that the school motto — Gratitude, Diligence, and Discipline — will become a compass in your lives and guide you toward the future you wish to build.

Celebrando la graduación de los estudiantes de AKISHO
El 2 de marzo de 2026 asistí como invitado a la ceremonia de graduación de la Escuela Secundaria Comercial Municipal de Akita (AKISHO). Fue una ceremonia muy hermosa que me recordó una vez más cuánto crecen los estudiantes durante sus tres años de escuela secundaria.
Esta fue la tercera vez que tengo la oportunidad de asistir, y cada año me deja una profunda impresión.
Cuando los graduados entraron al salón, sus rostros mostraban alegría y confianza. Después de tres años de estudios y actividades de clubes dentro de la disciplina característica de AKISHO, se podía ver claramente el orgullo por lo que habían logrado.
Algo que siempre destaca en AKISHO es la postura y los modales de los estudiantes. Sus movimientos son firmes y respetuosos, y toda la ceremonia tiene un ambiente tranquilo y digno. Se puede sentir la fuerte tradición y disciplina de la escuela.
Durante el discurso del director, hubo un mensaje que me impresionó mucho.
“Después de graduarse, lo más importante es el carácter de la persona.
La base del carácter es el lema de nuestra escuela:
Gratitud, Dedicación y Disciplina.
En la vida, el carácter se convierte en una brújula.”
En la sociedad, las personas a veces enfrentan decisiones difíciles. En esos momentos, el carácter se convierte en la guía que nos ayuda a decidir qué es lo correcto. Sentí que este mensaje no solo era importante para los estudiantes, sino también para nosotros los adultos.
He tenido relación con AKISHO durante los últimos dos años a través de actividades relacionadas con las Escuelas UNESCO. Muchos de los estudiantes con los que tuve contacto en clases y actividades estaban entre los graduados de este año. Cuando los vi en el escenario, casi se me salieron las lágrimas.
Al mismo tiempo, sentí una gran alegría al verlos comenzar una nueva etapa de su vida.
La ceremonia de graduación de AKISHO tiene un encanto muy especial. La escuela valora sus tradiciones, y el respeto y la disciplina están profundamente arraigados en su cultura. Ver a los estudiantes salir con tanta confianza realmente inspira.
